# Best error tracking MCP servers for AI coding agents (2026)

There's no single best one. Pick the one that reads where your evidence already lives. **Sentry MCP** if you already use Sentry, and the **Datadog MCP server** if you already use Datadog. **PostHog MCP** if you want error tracking, replay and product analytics in one tool that starts free. **Thermite** or **Okapi** if you want to keep your Sentry SDK and run a smaller tracker yourself. **Faultline** for CI failures. **Agenterr** if you'd rather send logs than add an SDK. **ObserverKit** for EU-hosted JS and React Native. **Jam** or **SnagRelay** for bug reports a person records or sends, and **SnagFrog** for indie apps and games that want a report page and email replies. **BugTape** (our product) catches supported failures that real users hit and never report, groups repeats into one issue with DOM replay for the agent, and gives you nothing to host.

No account: `npx -y bugtape --help` prints the commands and does not sign you in. The demo MCP at https://app.bugtape.ai/demo/mcp needs no sign-in. Your own workspace needs one.

## Facts table

| Tool | Best for | Agent access | Hosting / licence | Price (vendor's page, checked 26 Oct 2026) | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sentry MCP | Teams already on Sentry | Remote MCP at `https://mcp.sentry.dev/mcp`, OAuth to your Sentry account. Searches errors, triages issues and reads docs | Sentry cloud | Developer $0 (5k errors) lists "MCP access"; Team $29 a month billed monthly ($26 billed yearly); Seer AI debugging costs extra | [mcp.sentry.dev](https://mcp.sentry.dev/), [sentry.io/pricing](https://sentry.io/pricing/) |
| Datadog MCP server | Teams already on Datadog | Remote MCP for your Datadog site. OAuth 2.0 is recommended; access tokens or API and application keys also work. Add the `error-tracking` toolset (it is not in the default `core` set) for `search_datadog_error_tracking_issues`, `get_datadog_error_tracking_issue` and `analyze_datadog_error_tracking_errors`. An admin must turn on MCP Access | Datadog cloud; not on the GovCloud sites. Datadog says it is "under significant development" | Your Datadog plan; fair-use limit of 100,000 tool calls a month | [Setup](https://docs.datadoghq.com/mcp_server/setup/), [Tools](https://docs.datadoghq.com/mcp_server/tools/), [Overview](https://docs.datadoghq.com/bits_ai/mcp_server/) |
| PostHog MCP | Errors, replay and product analytics in one tool | Hosted MCP at `https://mcp.posthog.com/mcp`, "a free, hosted endpoint"; `npx @posthog/wizard mcp add`. Error tools include `query-error-tracking-issues-list`, `query-error-tracking-issue` and `query-error-tracking-issue-events`. Session recording tools too. Some tools use AI and bill as PostHog AI spend | PostHog cloud, US or EU region | First 100,000 exceptions a month free; no card to start | [MCP](https://posthog.com/docs/model-context-protocol), [MCP tools](https://posthog.com/docs/model-context-protocol/tools), [Error tracking pricing](https://posthog.com/docs/error-tracking/pricing) |
| trycatch | Moving off Sentry with the same SDK | MCP server | Cloud with a waitlist ("Limited early access"). The homepage says "Self-host for free", and its FAQ says self-hosting is on the Enterprise plan | Developer $0 (100,000 errors/month, 1 project, 7-day retention); Team "pricing coming soon" on the plan card (the feature list says "Team plan from $29") | [trycatch.co](https://trycatch.co/) |
| Faultline | CI failures, Sentry envelope ingest | MCP for Claude Code, Cursor and Windsurf | MPL-2.0; hosted at faultline.live | Not published ("Get started free") | [faultline.live](https://faultline.live/) |
| ObserverKit | JS/TS and React Native, EU | HTTP MCP with five tools for error groups, plus a REST API | EU cloud | Free €0 (500 errors/month); Pro €10/month (25,000 errors/month) | [observerkit.com](https://observerkit.com/) |
| Jam | Bug reports a person records | Hosted MCP at `https://mcp.jam.dev/mcp`; you sign in to Jam. The agent reads console logs, network requests, user events, the video transcript, video frames and screenshots | Jam cloud | Free $0: 30 Jams a month, "Debug Jams via MCP"; Team $14 per creator a month, billed yearly | [MCP docs](https://jam.dev/docs/jam-mcp), [Pricing](https://jam.dev/pricing) |
| SnagRelay | Bug reports a tester or client sends | Remote MCP at `https://mcp.snagrelay.com/v1` with browser sign-in. The agent reads the element, a marked-up screenshot, console errors and failed requests with their bodies. The replay is a separate watch link | SnagRelay cloud | Free $0: 25 reports a month, MCP included; Solo $12, Studio $23, Agency $63 a month billed yearly ($15, $29, $79 billed monthly), excluding VAT | [Agents](https://snagrelay.com/agents/), [Pricing](https://snagrelay.com/pricing/) |
| SnagFrog | Indie apps and games, user reports | MCP server with 35 tools, plus a Claude skill. Branded report form and two-way email replies | Hosted | Not published; ask hello@snagfrog.com | [snagfrog.com](https://snagfrog.com/) |
| Thermite | Sentry SDK drop-in on your own Postgres | MCP on every plan. Agents claim issues on a lease, so two agents never triage the same bug. Thermite calls no model itself | AGPL-3.0, one binary + Postgres; hosted signups roll out from a waitlist | Self-host $0; hosted Free 1,000 errors/month, Pro $19, Team $49 (Pro and Team not billable yet) | [thermite.rs](https://thermite.rs/), [Pricing](https://thermite.rs/pricing) |
| Okapi | Flat-priced self-host | MCP on every plan. Scoped tokens (read, triage, admin), and every event field is fenced so a stack trace can't become an instruction | One binary + Postgres, self-hosted, not open source; cloud not open yet | Self-host Solo $79/year (1 seat), Team $249/year, Business $599/year; planned cloud Team $35/month for 1M events; 14-day trial in the binary | [useokapi.app](https://useokapi.app/), [Pricing](https://useokapi.app/pricing) |
| Agenterr | Log-first tracking for side projects | MCP tools plus a Claude Code skill | AGPL-3.0, v0.2.0, single binary + SQLite, about 25MB RAM at idle. Sentry ingest is on its roadmap and not shipped. Hosted is not available yet | Self-host free | [agenterr.dev](https://agenterr.dev/) |
| BugTape | Failures real users hit and never report, plus user reports, with DOM replay; nothing to host | Remote MCP at `https://app.bugtape.ai/mcp` with OAuth on every plan, or `npx -y bugtape connect`. Read-only demo MCP with no account | Hosted (Sydney) | Free $0, no card (150 credits a month; 2 credits a bug read); Prepaid credits $10 for 2,000; Pro $29/month with free agent reads | [bugtape.ai/pricing](/pricing/) |

**Not in the table:** urgentry ([urgentry.com](https://urgentry.com/), checked 26 Oct 2026) is a source-available (FSL-1.1-ALv2), self-hosted Sentry replacement with session replay and profiling. Its homepage doesn't mention an MCP server. Checkend ([checkend.com](https://checkend.com/), checked 26 Oct 2026) now describes itself as open-source, self-hosted web analytics for coding agents, with MCP, a CLI and a REST API. It says it "is not released yet", and its error tracking module is planned and not shipped. It was in this table on 16 Oct 2026. The [self-hosted trackers page](/compare/self-hosted-agent-error-tracking/) covers urgentry.

## Disclosure

I build BugTape and it's on this list. Every other row comes from that vendor's public site on the date above, not from my testing of their product.

## How to choose

1. **Start where your errors already go.** If you use Sentry, try Sentry MCP first. If you use Datadog, add its `error-tracking` toolset. If you use PostHog, its MCP already has error tracking tools. You lose nothing by trying the one you have.
2. **Decide whether you want to run the tracker.** Thermite, Okapi and Agenterr run on your machines and keep your SDK or your logs and your data with you. trycatch's homepage says it can be self-hosted, and its FAQ puts self-hosting on the Enterprise plan. You also own upgrades and backups.
3. **Separate reports a person sends from failures nobody reports.** Jam and SnagRelay are for testers, product people and clients who record or send a bug. They give the agent a video or a marked-up screenshot. BugTape's report form has no screenshots or voice notes yet, and its replay is rebuilt from DOM events, so it has no video. BugTape sends supported failures on its own and groups repeats into one issue. SnagFrog covers user reports for indie apps and games.
4. **Check what happens when a fixed bug comes back.** BugTape anchors a fixed issue to its release and reopens it if the same failure comes from a newer release. Okapi says regressions reopen themselves. Thermite counts the crash-free rate per release. These work in different ways, so read each one's docs.

## FAQ

### Which error tracker has the best MCP server?

It depends on where your errors live. Sentry MCP and the Datadog MCP server cover the most if your data is already in those tools. PostHog's MCP pairs error tracking with session replay and product analytics. The others are narrower and were built around the agent from the start.

### Can I keep my Sentry SDK and switch trackers?

Thermite, Okapi and trycatch say they accept the Sentry SDK, so you change the DSN. Faultline lists Sentry envelope v7 as an ingest format. BugTape doesn't accept the Sentry SDK. It uses its own browser script and SDKs because it captures DOM replay and user reports.

### Is there a free error tracking MCP server?

PostHog calls its MCP endpoint free, and its first 100,000 exceptions a month are free. Sentry's free Developer plan lists MCP access. Jam and SnagRelay include MCP on their Free plans. Thermite and Agenterr are free to self-host. BugTape has a Free plan with no card, and MCP works on it at 2 credits a bug read.

### Which ones can I self-host?

Thermite, Okapi and Agenterr. Faultline is MPL-2.0 and runs as one binary and a Dolt server. trycatch's homepage says you can self-host it for free, and its FAQ says self-hosting is on the Enterprise plan. BugTape is hosted only.

### Which ones show the agent what the user did in the browser?

Jam gives user events, the video transcript and video frames. SnagRelay gives the element, a marked-up screenshot, console errors and request bodies. PostHog has session recording tools, and Datadog's MCP can search RUM events. BugTape gives DOM replay, the failed request, the console and the stack. Servers have no replay or console in BugTape.

### Do these work with Cursor and Claude Code?

Every vendor here says it works with MCP clients. Most name Claude Code and Cursor on their setup pages.

## Try the commands

```bash
npx -y bugtape --help
claude mcp add --transport http bugtape-demo https://app.bugtape.ai/demo/mcp
```

The second command adds the read-only demo project, so your agent can read one issue end to end before you sign up. On your own workspace, your agent opens a pull request and your team reviews it.
