# BugTape vs LogRocket

LogRocket records sessions, product analytics, and errors, and its pricing page lists MCP. BugTape groups one failure with a short replay and hands that issue to your agent.

No account: `npx -y bugtape --help` prints the commands and does not sign you in. The demo MCP at https://app.bugtape.ai/demo/mcp needs no sign-in. Your own workspace needs one.

## What LogRocket publishes

Checked on LogRocket's own site on 2026-10-18:

- Session replay for web and native. Their pages call the replay pixel-perfect.
- Product analytics, including funnels and heatmaps.
- Error tracking for JavaScript exceptions, failed requests, crashes, stacks, and alerts.
- Galileo AI on their product pages.
- Pricing is based on sessions. Their pages say analytics, logs, and errors are unlimited.
- Their [pricing page](https://logrocket.com/pricing) lists MCP / API access in Core; Pro and Enterprise add monthly API / MCP credits. Check the current plan and usage terms.

## What BugTape does

BugTape does not record every visit. It keeps a short buffer and sends it with a supported error or a user report. Repeats of the same failure become one issue. An authorized agent reads that issue over MCP after one sign-in. DOM replay is rebuilt from events. It is not a screen video. Hosted screenshots and voice notes are not stored. Fatal iOS crash capture is not available.

## Facts

| Feature | LogRocket (their pages, 2026-10-18) | BugTape (our docs) |
|---|---|---|
| Main job | Sessions, analytics, and errors across visits. | One grouped failure, with the evidence around it. |
| Replay | They publish session replay for web and native. | A short DOM-event replay sent with a report. Not every visit. Not a screen video ([DOM replay vs screen video](/blog/dom-replay-vs-screen-video/)). |
| MCP | [MCP / API access is listed in Core](https://logrocket.com/pricing). Check the current plan and usage terms. | MCP on every plan after one sign-in. `npx -y bugtape --help` needs no account. |
| Price | [Session-based pricing](https://logrocket.com/pricing); the total depends on volume, retention and add-ons. | Free is $0. Prepaid credits are $10 for 2,000 credits. Pro is $29 a month. |

## When each fits

Use LogRocket when you want a recording and analytics for visits, including visits that did not fail. Use BugTape when you want the broken ones grouped, with evidence an agent can read. Use both when you already pay for session analytics and also want that agent loop.

## Similar tools

FullStory is in the same session-replay class. This page does not score FullStory. Jam, Marker.io, and BugHerd are bug-report widgets; see [Compare](/compare/). [BugTape and Sentry](/compare/sentry/) and [Switching from Highlight](/compare/highlight/) are separate pages. BugTape does not claim it is alone in offering MCP.

## FAQ

### Is BugTape a LogRocket replacement?

No. LogRocket records sessions, analytics, and errors. BugTape does not record every visit, and it does not publish funnels or heatmaps.

### Does LogRocket have error tracking and MCP?

Yes. Their [error tracking page](https://logrocket.com/products/ai-error-tracking) describes exceptions, failed requests, stacks and alerts. Their [pricing page](https://logrocket.com/pricing) lists MCP / API access in Core. MCP is not unique to BugTape.

### Can I try BugTape with no account?

`npx -y bugtape --help` prints the commands and does not sign you in. The live demo runs in the browser and sends nothing. The demo MCP at https://app.bugtape.ai/demo/mcp needs no sign-in. Your own workspace needs one.

## Sources and a practical test

Read LogRocket’s [session replay](https://logrocket.com/products/session-replay-developers), [error tracking](https://logrocket.com/products/ai-error-tracking), [product analytics](https://logrocket.com/products/product-analytics) and [pricing](https://logrocket.com/pricing) pages. These are vendor descriptions, not a hands-on certification.

In a test app with synthetic data, trigger the same failed request twice. Compare grouping, the captured request and stack, replay privacy, and what your coding agent can read. Then measure both SDKs with the same capture settings. Homepage speed scores do not measure SDK overhead. The [PostHog comparison](/compare/posthog/) also explains the analytics-versus-failure-evidence choice.

## Try the commands

```bash
npx -y bugtape --help
```

Your team reviews the PR. Agents do not silent-ship.
