# Self-hosted error tracking for coding agents

**Short answer:** if you want to keep your Sentry SDK and run a small tracker yourself, Thermite (one binary + Postgres) and Okapi (one Go binary + Postgres) are the closest to drop-in, and both give your agent an MCP server. Agenterr suits you if you'd rather send logs than add an SDK. urgentry is the broadest Sentry replacement but doesn't mention an MCP server. Checkend no longer offers error tracking on checkend.com: on 26 October 2026 it describes unreleased self-hosted web analytics and lists errors as a planned module. If you don't want to run anything, that's where BugTape fits.

No account: `npx -y bugtape --help` prints the commands and does not sign you in. The demo MCP at https://app.bugtape.ai/demo/mcp needs no sign-in. Your own workspace needs one.

Page owner: Jaco Veldsman, hi@bugtape.ai. Last checked 2026-10-26. I build BugTape, which is hosted only and isn't a contender for self-hosting. I wrote this because these trackers keep coming up together. Every row is from the vendor's own site or GitHub repository on 26 October 2026: [urgentry](https://urgentry.com/), [Thermite](https://thermite.rs/pricing), [Okapi](https://useokapi.app/pricing), [Agenterr](https://agenterr.dev/pricing) and [Checkend](https://checkend.com/docs/concepts/modules.md).

## Facts table

| | Runs on | Licence | Sentry SDK drop-in | Agent access | Hosted option |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| urgentry | Single binary (Tiny mode); its larger self-hosted mode adds PostgreSQL, MinIO, Valkey and NATS | FSL-1.1-ALv2 (source-available) | Yes, change the DSN | No MCP server mentioned on homepage or README ([GitHub](https://github.com/urgentry/urgentry)) | Not mentioned |
| Thermite | One binary + Postgres | AGPL-3.0 | Yes | MCP; your agent claims an issue under a lease, so two agents don't triage the same bug | Waitlist; hosted signup opens in batches. Free 1,000 errors/month, Pro $19/month, Team $49/month |
| Okapi | One Go binary + Postgres | Commercial licence. Okapi's pricing FAQ says it is self-hosted and is not open source ([pricing](https://useokapi.app/pricing), checked 26 Oct 2026) | Yes | MCP on every plan, OAuth for AI tools since 0.8 | Cloud not open yet (planned Team $35/month for 1M events). Self-host licence from $79/year; 14-day trial in the binary |
| Agenterr | Single binary + SQLite, ~25MB RAM | AGPL-3.0 (v0.2.0) | Not yet; on its roadmap | 21 MCP tools ([pricing](https://agenterr.dev/pricing), checked 26 Oct 2026) + Claude Code skill | Self-host only; hosted "not yet available" |
| Checkend | Changed between 16 and 26 Oct 2026. checkend.com now describes self-hosted web analytics, not released yet | Apache 2.0 core | No. The errors module is planned and not started | MCP, `ce` CLI and REST API, for analytics | The self-host page says there is no cloud version. A [Checkend Cloud](https://cloud.checkend.com/signup) sign-up page still mentions error tracking, marked early access |

## How I'd choose

1. **You need broad Sentry parity (traces, profiling, replay).** Pick urgentry. Pair it with a separate agent path.
2. **You want your own agent to triage each new issue, and you want no model inside the tracker.** Pick Thermite. Thermite says it never calls a model and leases each issue to one agent ([thermite.rs](https://thermite.rs/), checked 26 Oct 2026).
3. **You want a predictable bill or a hosted path later.** Pick Okapi or Thermite. Okapi sells an annual self-host licence per instance ([pricing](https://useokapi.app/pricing), checked 26 Oct 2026). Thermite prices hosted plans by error volume ([pricing](https://thermite.rs/pricing), checked 26 Oct 2026).
4. **You want no SDK and only send logs.** Pick Agenterr.
5. **You do not want to run a server, and you need browser replay and user reports.** Pick BugTape. BugTape does not accept a Sentry DSN.

If you were looking at Checkend for its verified-fix loop, that loop is now part of Checkend's plan for a future errors module (checked 26 Oct 2026, [modules page](https://checkend.com/docs/concepts/modules.md)). ## FAQ

### Which self-hosted tracker accepts my existing Sentry SDK?

urgentry, Thermite and Okapi say they do. Agenterr lists Sentry ingest on its roadmap. Checkend's current docs describe no Sentry endpoint; its errors plan mentions one for a future release.

### Which is the lightest to run?

Agenterr quotes about 25MB of RAM at idle ([pricing](https://agenterr.dev/pricing), checked 26 Oct 2026). urgentry runs as one binary in Tiny mode; its larger mode adds PostgreSQL, MinIO, Valkey and NATS ([GitHub](https://github.com/urgentry/urgentry), checked 26 Oct 2026). Thermite and Okapi need Postgres ([Thermite](https://thermite.rs/pricing), [Okapi](https://useokapi.app/pricing), checked 26 Oct 2026).

### Do any of them call an AI model on my errors?

Thermite says it never calls a model, and your own agent does the triage ([thermite.rs](https://thermite.rs/), checked 26 Oct 2026). Checkend says it has no AI inside ([llms.txt](https://checkend.com/llms.txt), checked 26 Oct 2026). Check each vendor's docs for the others.

### What happened to Checkend?

Between 16 and 26 October 2026, checkend.com changed from error tracking for coding agents to self-hosted web analytics that is not released yet. Its docs list errors as a planned module. Details and sources are on [BugTape vs Checkend](/compare/checkend/).

### Can BugTape be self-hosted?

No. BugTape is hosted only, and data is stored in Sydney. Free has no card; Prepaid credits and Pro at $29/month cover more.
